Fed: Labor says patience on people smuggling won't last forever

CANBERRA, Feb 26 AAP - The United Nations and the Australian community would eventuallylose patience with the government's handling of people smuggling, Labor said today.

The opposition said the government had been slow to recognise the importance of a regionalstrategy to combat the problem and must do more.

The comments came as Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, Immigration Minister PhilipRuddock and Justice Minister Chris Ellison arrived in Bali to co-host a three-day regionalconference on people smuggling and transnational crime.
