BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 23, 1996 -- The Family Education Network, a new advocacy- and education-oriented online service dedicated solely to the needs of parents and children, announced today that it has appointed Jimmy Guterman to the position of vice president of content.
In his new role, Guterman will lead the Family Education Network's editorial operation through its final stage of development and the service's launch later this spring.
The Family Education Network is being developed and offered by the Educational Publishing Group (EPG), a leader in providing resources for parent involvement in children's education. The Family Education Network is well-positioned to fill the void in family-oriented programming, with multiple, age-appropriate filters to assist parents in gathering relevant information about their children's education and development; areas for online homework help, teen advice, and activities based on public television programming; and organized access to Internet sites with relevant applications and content.
Guterman, as vice president of content, is responsible for fleshing out the Family Education Network's individual content areas and overseeing the service's overall editorial strategy. He brings to the Family Education Network many years of experience in the online services industry, most recently as an independent consultant for Microsoft Corp. and the Microsoft Network; Ziff-Davis Interactive; and the research consulting firm IDC. Previously, he was a senior producer at Delphi Internet Services Corporation and the editor-in-chief of CD Review. Guterman received undergraduate degrees in psychology and English from the University of Pennsylvania and did graduate work at the New School for Social Research.
"Jimmy Guterman's depth of understanding about issues facing families today will help the Family Education Network reach its full potential," said Jon Carson, president of Educational Publishing Group and the Family Education Network. "The Family Education Network will give parents and children the tools to survive in a world increasingly intolerant of those with outmoded skills. Jimmy has already helped push the information age in new directions, and we're very excited about integrating his ideas and approaches into the service."
"The Family Education Network is a groundbreaking online service," said Jimmy Guterman. "The idea is to help parents prepare their children for the competition ahead, to use the power of online technology to provide an advocacy forum for families, and to integrate online content with offline activities. We're building a service that will encourage talk about the whole range of parenting."
The Family Education Network and the Educational Publishing Group are currently in partnership with Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the American Association of School Administrators, Reading is Fundamental, and many other family-oriented organizations to bring their editorial mission to the broadest audience possible. -0-
